The oft-visited Makaha Ridge is in stark contrast to the lush, red Waimea Canyon. This is due to the topography of the island, as the ridge is on the west side, where the air is descending from the peak of Wai`ale`ale, and thus not releasing water. As you can see, though, it gets its fair share due to the staining of runoff and the fluted carvings in its face.
