Chapada Diamantina National Park, Parque Nacional da Chapada Diamantina, Bahia, Brazil, Lencois, plateau, altiplano

"Mothership"

In the state of Bahia in Central Brazil lies one of the most unique places I have ever been to, Chapada Diamantina National Park (Parque Nacional da Chapada Diamantina). This area of Brazil was connected to modern day Namibia in Africa, and hence was known for diamonds (hence the name). However, its uplifted limestone plateaus are the real sight to see, impossibly jutting vertically out of the otherwise flat landscape. Amazing!
At night, the view from inside the national park is incredible. The area is already isolated from any major cities by hundreds of miles, which makes for pristine viewing of the night sky.
